What is Sandblasting?

Sand blasting is basically used to clean the surface of any material, mainly for the metallic surface. It is one of the most efficient and quick methods which uses compressed air to blast fine sand through a nozzle to shape and smooth surface of any foreign material. It is well suited for the removal of rust which causes property damage. It is used not only to remove rust but to prepare the surface for high-performance coatings or to treat final products to give them luster and surface texture desired by the retail consumer. Materials used in sand blasting are sand, copper slog, steel grit, pieces of walnut, powder abrasive, pieces of avocado and many others.Sandblasting is like spray painting but instead of paint, it will blow an abrasive material with compressed air to etch the surface being blasted.

Equipment

There are many different ways to sandblast.it can do it in an enclosed cabinet, in a specially built room or outdoors. Sandblast cabinets are designed for containing and recycle the abrasive grit. They can be approximately small tabletop units or floor models large enough to supply relatively large projects. You can even get “pass-through” cabinets that allow you to slide the material to be blasted through so there is relatively no limit to the size of the project you can blast.

A compressor is used for the high-pressure jet of air to blast the abrasive material. Sand is cheap and easily available but produces silica dust when blasted. Garnet will be work if nothing else available but is softer than the other abrasives so will take much longer to do the job.Aluminum oxide is a popular choice for many sandblasters. It’s cheaper than silicon carbide but wears down much quicker so you won’t be able to reuse it as many times as silicon carbide. Silicon carbide is much more costly than aluminum oxide but because it is much harder it can be used many more times.
